RCIA, a Journey for the Entire Parish

RCIA, a Journey for the Entire Parish

The Rite of Initiation of Adults begins on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, for Our Lady of Angels Parish. This process is not just for the catechumens and candidates, but it is also a journey of conversion for the whole parish! It is vital to the process of initiation for the parish community to walk this journey of faith with us. Our candidates are coming to OLA parish doors saying, "I want to be Catholic." As parishioners please hold these seekers and inquirers in your prayers that they may develop, deepen, and enrich their relationship with our loving God, in Jesus, and through the Holy Spirit. Pray for their sponsors who walk with their candidates, as they support them, pray for and with them, act as witness to their faith, and guide them along the path. As sponsors and witnesses to our candidates, we also renew our own conversion to God in Christ. This conversion is a lifelong and ongoing process. When we witness others changing their lives by giving up old ways of doing and being and committing (or recommitting) themselves to Jesus Christ, we want to do the same. When each of us recommits our lives to Christ, the parish is indeed renewed and filled with the Holy Spirit!

If you are interested in attending our first meeting or have questions, please call Johna at (650) 347-3671.

The RCIA process is for adults who:

  • Have never been baptized
  • Were baptized in another Christian tradition and wish to unite with the Roman Catholic faith
  • Were baptized Catholic and have not completed their initiation with the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist.

Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace, Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy;

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
